OUR RALEIGH
PERSONAL PROJECT
An oldie, but a goodie. This piece was part of my Senior Honors Capstone project during undergrad. Though it's been a while since I worked on this project, I always keep it in my portfolio because it showcases the reason I went into design — to foster connection with your neighbors and build community.
Role:
Art Direction, Illustration, Motion Graphics

REFLECTION
Are there things I would change now? Oh yeah. The sound quality was abysmal, and ultimately I wanted to create a series of these that would showcase the voices of Raleigh (note the title). But time passes and personal projects sometimes go unfinished. Maybe it will inspire my next project, who knows?

PROCESS
The process started by documenting Kaanchee's story. I asked them to record their story a handful of times and snapped some photos that I ended up using as a reference for the painting in the video.

I remember having so much fun illustrating the individual elements in Adobe Illustrator. I sketched a good portion of it originally, but those files are lost to time.

Storyboarding was the final part of the process before taking it into After Effects. I ended up doing this in the same illustrator file so I could easily swap out elements.
